Brunei Darussalam is experiencing unsettled weather conditions with incessant heavy rain occurring late in the evening and well into the night resulting in flash floods and landslide. Sunday alone, the Disaster Management Centre that is also manned by the Fire and Rescue Service received 19 emergency calls pertaining to flash floods in low lying areas and landslides on higher grounds. The worst landslide was reported to have occurred near the Sri Barangan Apartment. The mishap that happened at half past seven in the morning damaged two cars belonging to the apartment’s tenants. No injuries were reported. Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services as well the Royal Brunei Police had the affected area under control. Landslides also occurred in Kampung Lambak Kanan, Kampung Mata-Mata, Kampung Kapok and several other areas in Kampung Subok in Bandar Seri Begawan. The heavy downpour also uprooted trees but no injuries were reported. Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services had been engaged in clearing up the debris that littered the road. Flash floods were reported in Kampung Lumapas, several villages in Mukim Sengkurong, Kampung Sungai Tampoi, Kampung Pasai and the housing areas at Ban 3, Ban 5 and its surrounding. To prevent any untoward incident, parents and guardians are reminded to monitor the whereabouts of their kids.

Meanwhile, part of the road leading to Kampung Kilanas and Kampung Bengkurong is closed to traffic due to a landslide. The authorities are yet to clear the affected stretch of road until they are assured that it is safe to do so. Road users are advised to proceed with caution when approaching the affected road.
